iDEAL Profiles Pilot Launched in Collaboration with Rabobank

Amsterdam, 12 March 2024 – iDEAL has launched new functionalities in collaboration with Rabobank. During a trial period, members of the bank's online Rabo-Labs community will be the first to create an iDEAL profile and enjoy easier payments at selected online stores.

The new iDEAL profile ensures a faster and more user-friendly ordering experience. Customers benefit from a reduced payment process, as their details are stored in this profile, removing the need to repeatedly enter information for each online purchase. Following the pilot's conclusion in April, the iDEAL profile will be available to customers of all banks affiliated with iDEAL.

Privacy and Security are Paramount

The innovations align with consumers' changing needs and online payment trends. Amos Kater, Chief Product Officer at iDEAL, emphasises: "Primarily, the updated iDEAL enhances the ease of online payments. Additionally, it assures a high standard of privacy, which is particularly beneficial for smaller online stores." These stores can benefit from centralised customer data storage, improving consumer privacy and security.

"Shopping may be more enjoyable for some than others, but for most people, the payment process needs to be straightforward and quick," explains Paul Wolda, Payments Manager at Rabobank. "At Rabobank, we aim to enhance the user-friendliness of our products. Therefore, it's great that our customers will be the first consumers to use the new functionalities." Currently, the pilot is only available to a select group of Rabobank customers and is not open for sign-ups.

Online pharmacy De Online Drogist is one of the pilot participants: "It's beneficial that consumers no longer need to fill in their details with every order. We anticipate a faster and more user-friendly ordering experience because of these developments," says Joachim de Boer, CTO of De Online Drogist. is involved as iDEAL's payment provider to De Online Drogist. COO Olaf Kok states: "For us, it's crucial to offer our webshops solutions that allow them to provide their customers with the best possible checkout experience at an attractive price. The updated iDEAL amply meets those needs."

Early Implementation for Online Stores

Online stores not participating in the pilot can already start preparations to implement the new iDEAL functionalities. "Stores that are ready at the start of the campaign in April will immediately gain a competitive edge. They will directly benefit from increased customer satisfaction and conversion," concludes Kater. For integrating the new iDEAL, they should contact their bank, Collecting Payment Service Provider (CPSP), or web developer.
