iDEAL is a prime example of a payment method that relies a great deal on availability. The availability depends on IT systems, on the maintenance of said systems and also on possible incidental malfunctions. As a consequence, iDEAL is sometimes unavailable or only partially available. A measurement system has been developed to provide information on the current availability of iDEAL.

The information of this measurement system is the most accurate and up-to-date information on iDEAL’s availability, because it is based on all iDEAL payments. On the iDEAL availability pages, you can determine if paying with iDEAL is possible at any time of the day. In addition, you can also view the past availability.

Current availability

The current availability for each consumer bank (issuer) is shown on the dashboard. This information is updated every 5 minutes. If there is a green check mark behind the bank’s name, payment with iDEAL is possible. If you see an orange exclamation mark or a red cross, an error has occurred at the bank. The explanation will then reveal whether a bank is completely or only partially unavailable. The cause of the error will be stated, if known.

The current availability is calculated on the basis of information on all iDEAL payments from the systems of every bank that Merchant(online shops) are affiliated with. The measurement system therefore contains the official availability figures of iDEAL for all banks. It provides the most accurate information possible on the current availability, as well as an answer to the question of whether payment with iDEAL is possible.

Note: Errors in the systems of the online shop, the Payment Service Provider or PSP or your own internet provider are outside the scope of this measurement system.

Past availability

The availability for each consumer bank in the last 24 hours or the last 7 days is shown in a graph. You decide for which bank the information is shown. If no deviations from the normal pattern have been measured in a certain period, the line in the graph will be at 100%.

Merchant banks

The availability of the merchant banks (acquirer)  is measured every minute. This information is used to check if these systems are able to collect information.  If it is determined that a merchant bank is not available, a notification about this will be shown on the availability page. It will not be possible to pay with iDEAL on some websites if a merchant bank is unavailable. If a website receives payments through a different merchant bank, payment with iDEAL will be possible.
